Arkansas Urology Associates Data Breach

Arkansas Urology Data Breach

On June 12, 2025, Arkansas Urology announced that it had experienced a data privacy event impacting an undisclosed number of patients. The incident was linked to unauthorized access to the organization’s email environment between March 25 and April 29, 2025. During this time, an unknown party may have viewed sensitive patient information. While the breach was discovered in April, it wasn’t until June 9 that Arkansas Urology completed a review of the compromised data.

The breach may involve highly sensitive information, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical diagnoses, insurance details, prescription data, and more. Notice letters were sent to affected individuals with known mailing addresses, but many patients may still be unaware that their information was compromised.

Allegations

Poynter Law Group is currently investigating Arkansas Urology for potential violations of state and federal data protection laws, including:

  • Failure to adequately secure patients’ protected health information (PHI).
  • Delayed notification to impacted individuals.
  • Inadequate monitoring of suspicious activity and breach response protocols.
  • Potential violations of HIPAA and other consumer protection statutes.

What Went Wrong?

Arkansas Urology became aware of suspicious activity in its email systems in late April 2025 but waited several weeks before completing its investigation and notifying patients. During the time that unauthorized access was possible, sensitive patient records may have been viewed or stolen by a third party. The failure to detect and contain the breach sooner—and the potential delay in notifying victims—raises serious concerns about the safeguards Arkansas Urology had in place to protect confidential information.
